Anichebe key to Sunderland's rebirth – Moyes

By Daily Sports on December 21, 2016

David Moyes has revealed that Victor Anichebe is one of the major reasons behind Sunderland’s resurgence in the English Premier League.

Though in the relegation zone, the Black Cats are one point away from safety with the Nigerian playing a major role.

According to Moyes, the former Everton forward’s strength and communication skill is a brilliant weapon for the team in the wake of their 1-0 victory against Watford on Tuesday.

“One of – if not the - main reason behind Sunderland’s upturn. Unlike Pienaar, Anichebe did have something to prove,” Moyes told Sunderland Echo.

“His goal scoring record has never been his strong point. But his strength, hold-up play, work rate and powerful performances have.

“Brilliant with his back to goal, his link-up play with Patrick van Aanholt down the left-flank is a key weapon.

“Getting him fit and keeping him fit was key. The Sunderland backroom staff deserve credit along with the player himself and his form has been superb. A big plus for Moyes,” he concluded.

Sunderland face an hard-hitting task when they visit Manchester United on Boxing day. (goal.com)
