Usman hands Tornadoes victory over Abia Warriors

By Daily Sports on February 26, 2018

Niger Tornadoes defeated Abia Warriors 2-0 in a Matchday 10 tie at the Bako Kontagora Stadium, Minna on Sunday. This was a game that buttressed the widely held belief that the modern game belongs to the youth as the introduction of Tornadoes feeder team product Bashir Usman sparked forays culminating in Ikon Allah’s victory.

Before Usman’s introduction, the hosts seemed to be running out of clues as to how to break down the visitors’ resistance. They were playing for the first time in Minna since returning to the top flight three seasons ago and needed a positive result to, not only placate the fans, but navigate their way from the bottom of the log.

Meanwhile, a combination of some brilliant goalkeeping by Abia Warriors’ Joshua Enaholo and Ndifreke Effiong’s profligacy in front of goal conspired to ensure the game was goalless till Usman’s introduction.

“He (Usman) is our own magician. Whenever we bring him (on), he will do something. He was the one who changed the game yesterday,” Abdulazeez said afterwards.

Usman was promoted to the main team last season. For this season, Ahmad Liman has made the progress from feeder to the main team. Liman was an 86th minute substitute for Onwuasoanya. The club management hopes Liman has same impact as Usman. (NPFL)
