Heartland head coach, Ramson Madu has praised his players’ fighting spirit for their home win against Wikki Tourists on Sunday in a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Matchday 9 tie played at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.
The Naze Millionaires had to come back from a goal down to secure maximum points that lifted them to seventh place in the league table with 13 points from nine games but Madu in his post-match assessment with npfl.ng admitted that the victory never came easy and he praised up his players for digging deep to get the winning goal at the death.
Madu reckoned that his wards still struggle during their home matches and he has promised to continue work on the team to ensure that they are equipped to the pressure of playing before their fans and away from their fortress.
“We struggled again at home but more importantly, we were able to get our second straight home win. It has always been difficult to win our home games and we will continue to work on it until my players stop
playing under pressure while they are before their fans,” Madu told npfl.ng.
“I have to praise my players’ determination and fighting spirit for the win. They had to throw everything into the match to ensure that we get the three points at stake. We knew that it was crucial that we take our home points and it was the reason the players never relented even when they were aware the time was almost up.
“The win over Wikki Tourists has lifted our spirits and we shall go back to the drawing board to seriously prepare for the next game with Akwa United who are equally a strong side.
Heartland will face Akwa United next at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo this weekend in one of the Matchday 10 encounters. (NPFL)
