Premier League champions Manchester City have confirmed the signing of

Algeria international Riyad Mahrez on a five-year deal.

The 27-year-old has joined the Citizens from Leicester City for a fee around £60m that could rise to £75m with add-ons, becoming Pep Guardiola’s first major summer signing.

He becomes Manchester City’s record signing, beating Aymeric Laporte’s £57m move from Athletic Bilbao last January.

Leicester have also confirmed the deal is a club-record sale after they brought him for only £450k from French side AC Le Havre in 2014.

“I am so pleased to have joined City, a side playing great football under Pep Guardiola,” Mahrez said.

“Watching them from afar has been a pleasure. Pep is committed to playing attacking football, which is perfect for me, and City’s performances last season were outstanding.

“They’re redefining the English game and I wanted to be a part of it.

“I think we can be successful over the coming years and I believe my own game can develop under Pep’s management,” he added.

During his time with the foxes, Mahrez made over 170 appearances, scoring 48 goals and assisting further 38 as he guided them to a historic Premier League title in 2016.

He also helped Leicester win promotion to the Premier League in 2014 as well as guiding them to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

The Algerian, who has started his career at French side Quimper Kerfeunteun FC, has won the African Player of the Year award in 2016 and has been capped by his country 39 times.

He has made his international debut in 2014 against Armenia and was part of the team the took part in the 2014 World Cup, and the 2015 and 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.(www.kingfut.com)
