Enugu Rangers players will be rewarded with a sum of N1m for their 1-0 away win against oriental rivals Heartland in their Nigeria Professional Football League match day three fixture on Sunday even as handler of the side Gbenga Ogunbote has expressed his delight following the victory, reports Completesportsnigeria.
Enugu state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, pledged before the start of the season to reward the players with N1m for each away win.
The Flying Antelopes went into the game in poor form having lost their opening two fixtures against Akwa United and Lobi Stars, but dug deep to pick maximum points against their hosts courtesy of Bright Silas’ 10th minutes strike.
Lucky Emariojoke missed a penalty for Heartland in the game, while goalkeeper Femi Thomas was also in fantastic form and denied the hosts a number of times.
“Enugu State Governor will redeem his pledge of cash reward for the players after the win against Heartland. N1m for every win this season,” reads a tweet on the club’s official Twitter handle.
Meanwhile coach of the team Ogunbote is elated to see the team pick their first win of the season.
A relieved Ogunbote who replaced caretaker coach, Sylvanus Okpalla, at the end of last season stated they will build on the win in their subsequent games.
“The victory over Heartland means a lot to me and the players. Now we can build on this victory to forge ahead in the season,” the former Sunshine Stars and Enyimba coach told reporters after the game.
“The pressure would have been too much on the team if we had lost to Heartland.”
The Coal City club who sit in 16th position in the table will host Katsina United in their next game on Wednesday at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium.
