Iceland experienced defender Ari Skulason has admitted he did not want his country to be drawn against either the Super Eagles of Nigeria or Croatia, but was delighted to get Argentina in their 2018 World Cup group.
Iceland were the sensation of last year’s Euros in France as they dumped England to reach the last-eight of the tournament.
For Russia 2018, they will have to stand up to Argentina, Nigeria and Croatia to reach the knockout rounds of the competition.
“I wanted Argentina or Brazil, but I did not want Nigeria or Croatia,” admitted the 30-year-old Lokeren defender, who has won 52 caps with his country since his debut in 2009.
“We’re probably in the most difficult group of the World Cup, it will be difficult to beat those teams, but we’re going to have a good time there anyway.”
Iceland were only brought down to earth by hosts France in the quarterfinals when they fell 5-2.
Records have shown that the smallest country ever to qualify for the World Cup (population of under 400,000) thrashed Nigeria 3-0 in a friendly in 1981.
