Bala tags Cup tie v Pillars a must-win

By Daily Sports on December 6, 2017

Niger Tornadoes head coach, Abubakar Bala has tagged the clash against top-flight, El Kanemi Warriors at the on-going Sherif Rabi’U Inuwa (Ahlan Cup 2017) preseason tournament in Kano as a must-win match.

The Ikon Allah Boys will engage the Maiduguri Warriors in Tuesday’s Ahlan Cup 2017 matchday four clash at the Kano Pillars Stadium in Kano.

The Minna landlords played to a barren draw against the Nigerian champions, Plateau United on Monday.

Bala said his side are getting it right in their weak areas and are sure to present a strong and winning squad for the upcoming football season.

“We need an outright win to chance qualifying for the semifinals of the Ahlan Cup 2017 pre-season tournament, unlike our opponents El Kanemi Warriors, who will be comfortable with a draw.

“Already we have five points, El Kanemi Warriors have six while group’s leaders, Kano Pillars with nine points.

“The group’s qualification looks open depending on the outcome of the Pillars versus Kwara United clash, and the one between us and El Kanemi Warriors.

“I have drummed it hard into the ears of the players of the need for us to record a convincing win against El Kanemi Warriors.

“We are getting smooth and well with our pre-season programmes, we have noted the weak points - finishing and usage of chances we are working very hard to make the necessary corrections.

“The players are improving greatly, especially the strikers, who we brought in to shore up the squad to be competitive.

“I’m confident by the time we are done with the corrective preseason programmes and build-up we will have a far better squad than what we had in the out gone league season,” said the Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets assistant coach to supersport.com.

The Minna outfit will confront hosts and former Nigerian champions Kano Pillars on Wednesday to round up the group campaign.
