DRC World Cup dream crushed

By Daily Sports on November 12, 2017

Despite a 3-1 victory over Guinea, in the 2018 Fifa World Cup Qualification Caf group A match at the Stade des Martyrs on Saturday night, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have had their dream crushed.

Despite the victory, DRC could not qualify as they finished second in group A, while Guinea also fail to qualify after finishing third.

The score was 0-0 at halftime between DRC and Guinea following a first half which was dominated by the hosts, but they were wasteful.

The visitors started the second half brightly and they nearly broke the deadlock four minutes after the restart.

Diallo set up Alkhaly Bangoura, whose right-footed shot from the right-hand side was saved by DRC keeper Ley Matampi.

At the other end, Traore made a decent save to deny Mubele, who came close to scoring with a header on the hour-mark.

The deadlock was finally broken a minute later when Guinea defender Ousmane Sidibe scored an own goal to make it 1-0 to DRC.

However, the home side's lead lasted for 10 minutes as substitute Keita Junior made an immediate impact as he scored to make it 1-1 for Guinea.

DRC then took control of the match and they managed to restore their lead through Bolingi's penalty in stoppage time.

Neeskens Kebano also scored in stoppage time, sealing DRC's 3-1 victory over Guinea with a right-footed shot. © Backpage TXT
