Nasarawa Amazons on Friday defeated fighting Delta Queens to emerge the champions of the 2016/17 Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) season.

The Lafia landladies handed a 1-0 win to their opponent at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

Attacking midfielder, Amarachi Okoronkwo’s superb header that cut the Asaba ladies goalkeeper, Rita Akarekor napping in the 42nd minute proved adequate to hand the side the championship coveted trophy as well as the princely prize money.

The Lafia side achieved the performance unbeaten enroute to the final after the side amassed seven points during the round robin stage to top the four-team log.

Nasarawa Amazons coach, Michael Oluwaseyi said the NWPL Super 4 victory is the happiest moment of his life.

“In recent time apart from my wedding day this is one of my happiest moments in life.

“I thank God for giving the opportunity to coach this wonderful team. I’m equally grateful to the head coach, Christopher Danjuma for believing in me.

“I’m simply on top of the world at the moment, I’m simply overwhelmed with joy,” he said. © supersport.com
