Guinea coach aims for last 16 at World Cup

Guinea coach Souleymane Camara has set a target of reaching the last 16 at the upcoming U-17 World Cup in India.

Guinea, who finished third at the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year to earn their spot at the global tournament, will start their Group C campaign with a clash against Iran in Margao on Saturday.

The West Africans will also face Costa Rica and Germany in the first round and will need to finish in the top two of their group to guarantee progression into the last 16 (the four highest-ranked third-placed teams will also advance).

"It's too early to talk about winning the competition. We have got players who are still developing,” Camara is quoted by Firstpost.

“They're going to be coming up against professional players who've already picked up valuable experience at reserve-team level with clubs like Paris, Lyon and Marseille. Despite that gap, we'll be giving everything we have got to go as far as we can.

"We should be dreaming about getting beyond the group phase, something that no team from Guinea has ever done before.

“After that, we can start focusing on the following rounds and trying to go all the way,” Camara said. (Mtnfootball)
