Joseph Lamptey’s appeal on the life ban slammed on him by FIFA has been rejected by the World Court of Sports Arbitration (CAS).
The Ghanaian ref was fingered for influencing the World Cup qualification match between South Africa and Senegal in November 2016.
FIFA has ordered a replay of the match. Lamptey awarded a bogus penalty kick to the South Africans even as video replays showed that the Senegal defender did not handle the ball in their box.
Ghana Football Association (GFA) president, Kwesi Nyantakyi called on African referees to learn from Lamptey’s fate. “It is rather unfortunate that he lost his appeal and I hope it will be a wake-up call to other referees. “
This is because if one of the best referees in Ghana can go through this then it can happen to any other person. This must encourage them to be circumspect in their officiating,” Nyantakyi said. (Vanguard)
