Gernot Rohr has said he is satisfied his team managed a draw in Cameroon Monday night, saying the Indomitable Lions made several changes to the team from the Uyo match and wanted to avenge the heavy loss against them.
Nigeria trounced Cameroon 4-0 in Uyo on Friday, before they were forced to a 1-1 draw in Yaounde.
A win in Cameroon would have made the Super Eagles the first African team to qualify for Russia 2018.
However, Rohr said they were happy to pick a point on the road in Cameroon against a team, who wanted more.
“We are very happy with the point because we wanted at least four points from the two matches against Cameroon,” said the 64-year-old coach.
“It was a different Cameroon team, who wanted to revenge at home. They played very well. They had three fresh players, but we had the same team from the match in Uyo three days ago.“
Physically we had some problems in the second half, but we are very satisfied about this game.
”Nigeria next World Cup qualifier will be on October 7 against Zambia in Uyo. They are top of their qualifying group with 10 points from four matches.
Zambia, who are second on four points, will be guests of Algeria Tuesday night in Constantine.
