Nwakaeme, John Ogu crash out of UEFA Champions League

John Ogu and newly invited Super Eagles star Anthony Nwakaeme will not feature in the UEFA Champions League group stage after their Israeli club Hapoel Be’er Sheva lost 1-0 at Maribor of Slovenia Wednesday night.

The Israeli champions won the first leg 2-1 at home, but crashed out on the away goals’ rule after they lost 1-0 in Slovenia a week later.

Both players played the entire 90 minutes tonight. The Israeli champions will now drop to the UEFA Europa League.

Incidentally, their elimination comes on the day striker Nwakaeme, 28, was handed his first-ever call-up to the Super Eagles for next month’s World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon.
