Chukwuma Akabueze’s Turkish club Boluspor have set their sights on a place in the top flight next season, while the winger is also counting on his performance to earn him a recall to the Super Eagles after a 10-year absence.
Boluspor missed out on promotion narrowly last season.
The club have won the TFF Second League once, finishing as runner-up to the Türkiye Kupası. Their greatest success in top-flight football came in 1974, when they finished in third place.
The club are now setting their sights on gaining promotion to the top-tier in Turkey.
“We are all looking forward to the new season and we want to play good and successful football above all,” Akabueze told ScoreNigeria.com.ng
“We want to get into top-flight football. I have experienced it in Norway and China. I understand what it is like to play for clubs who are capable of winning things and I know how important it is to reach your goals in the end.”
The 28-year-old Akabueze, who scored three goals in 13 appearances last season in the Turkish TFF First League, is determined to make his mark and get the attention of national team selectors.
“I joined the club from Odd BK and had a decent time last season. This time around I have been with the team for the pre-season programmes and have fully settled for the task ahead,” he explained when asked by ScoreNigeria.com.ng
“My chances of getting a call-up to the Super Eagles team will become a reality once again if I churn out excellent performances for Boluspor.“
The current coach of the team Gernot Rhor is doing a good job and needs the support of everyone. He has done well with his philosophy and well laid down plans.”
