Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has assured Nigeria will qualify for both the 2018 World Cup as well as AFCON 2019, while also praising CAF for major changes to the AFCON.
The Super Eagles lead their World Cup qualifying group, which also has Cameroon and Zambia, but lost their opening game in the AFCON qualifiers to South Africa at home.
Rohr said the 2-0 loss to Bafana Bafana at Uyo is behind his team and they are now looking forward with optimism.
“The game against South Africa is in the past, we look forward now, we will go to the World Cup and the AFCON,” he declared.
He said the expansion of AFCON 2019 and the timing of the competition moved from January and February to June and July has improved the Eagles chances.
“The expansion of the AFCON and change of timing were good by CAF, it means we only need to finish at least second in our qualifying group to be at the final tournament,” Rohr maintained.
“I believe we will have a good AFCON.”
