Pillar of Sports in Nigeria, Chief Donatus Agu Ejidike, JP, has described the demise of National Vice President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN), South-south, Eddie Bekom, as a rude shock and devastating.
Chief Ejidike in a statement made available to Daily Sports said that the death of Eddie Bekom has created a great vacuum within the sports writing circle which will be difficult to fill. The sports philanthropist condoled with the family, Cross River State chapter of SWAN, the National Executive of SWAN and particularly, the South-South zone.
He prayed God to grant everyone the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss even as Eddie’s sudden departure will leave deep scar in the heart of sports stakeholders and his living colleagues.
The Pillar of Sports then called on the national body of SWAN to immortalise the late veteran Sports Journalist adding that such deaths are beyond human comprehension and “as such we should submit to the will of our creator.”
It would be recalled that the late Bekom was involved in domestic gas fire explosion which affected his family. Sadly, his wife and one child died earlier; and, as Nigerians rallied support in cash and prayers for the rest of the family, Eddie gave up the ghost.
Ejidike, therefore prays for the survival of three other members of the family who are still in the hospital receiving treatment.
