The Nigerian boxing team to the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in Nassau, Bahamas have been denied visas by the British embassy in Abuja says Completesportsnigeria.com.
Quoting sources, the paper reported that the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games will be the sixth edition of the event which started in 2000.
The source also disclosed that the contingents for the six other sports which Nigeria will be taking part in are also affected.
"We came for visas for the Youth Commonwealth Games in the Bahamas, but it's like we are missing out because the British high commission refused us visa," the source lamented.
"The opening ceremony holds Tuesday, in fact general weighing started Monday and the competition proper starts on Wednesday"
We went to the American embassy because we have to stop over in the United States or London before we get to Bahamas, still the same thing.
"This is the third time we are going to the embassy, flying to Abuja for visas and we don't even know our fate."
The British embassy even advises us to re-apply for the visas which doesn't make sense.
"Aside from the boxers, contingents from other sports, because Nigeria will participate in seven sports, they are also denied visas."
Nigeria missed the just concluded IAAF World U-18 Championship in Kenya due to a shortage of funds. (Completesportsnigeria.com)
