Mbaoma saves Remo Stars' blushes

By Daily Sports on July 12, 2017

Victor Mbaoma struck late to give Remo Stars a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw against FC Ifeanyiubah in a rearranged Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) contest on Tuesday.

There were no goals in a tight first half in Sagamu, but it was the visitors that made the breakthrough with barely 11 minutes left on the clock.

Chijoke Alaekwe and last season’s top scorer Godwin Obaje exchanged passes, with the latter heading a precise cross into an unguarded net past the Remo Stars goalkeeper Ndukwe Chizoba.

Stung into action, the hosts responded gamely and were level within a minute of going behind.

Mbaoma was the man on the money as he fired a free kick unerringly past the FCIU wall and goalkeeper Bamba Drissa into the top corner to set up a grand stand finish.

There would be no more goals as both sides settled for a point in a hard fought game that sparked into life at the death.

FCIU head coach Yaw Preko was delighted with the result as he shared his post-match thoughts with supersport.com.

“I will say to come all the way to Sagamu from Nnewi to get a point was impressive,” Preko said.

“They (Remo Stars) may be struggling this season but this is not an easy place to come to and get a result,” he said.
