Finnish club KuPS have appealed against a four-match ban slammed on Nigeria striker Gbolahan Salami.
The Eagles hitman also said he did not attack a referee as reported by a section of the media in Nigeria.
“I wish to put the records straight that I was not handed a six-match ban for attacking a referee in our game against Mariehamn so I read this report online with amazement,” a shocked Salami told SCORENigeria from his base in Finland Thursday.
“What actually happened was that I approached the referee on behalf of my Ghanaian teammate Solomon (Duah) after he was booked for protesting the cancellation of our late equaliser and the referee mistakenly sent me off.
“Solomon will also later be sent off, but it was a case of mistaken identity and my club have appealed the red card against me and we are confident the appeal will be upheld for me to play this Saturday against PS Kemi.
“Before this match, I was already on four bookings. A fifth yellow card would mean I will get a one-match ban and now with the red card, I got a four-match ban, which my club have appealed against.”
He continued: “But in all of these, I never attacked the referee and I expected journalists to double check their facts before they publish because they can damage someone’s career with such false reports.”
