The final of the glamorous annual football championship among secondary schools in Nigeria, the NNPC/Shell Cup, will be held on Tuesday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.

The gladiators for the 2017 edition are Hensen Demonstration School, Benin City and Holy Ghost College, Owerri.

En route to the grand finale, Hensen Demonstration School saw off the stiff challenge of Government College, Maiduguri in the semifinal.

The two sides ended the full time action at one goal apiece while the lads from Benin City outclassed their Maiduguri counterparts 4-0 on penalties.

Holy Ghosts College benched Sambo Secondary School, Gusau 3-1 in their semifinal clash on Sunday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.

The third-place playoff clash will also be played on Tuesday at the same ground as final between Government College, Maiduguri and Sambo Secondary School, Gusau.

A total of N8.2 million is on offer towards the development of sports facilities in the top four schools with the first place winner receiving N3.5m.

The second placed side will net N2.3m, the third-placed side N1.3m and the fourth-placed side N1.1m respectively.

Organisers of the tourney, the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC), operator of the SPDC Joint Ventures of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), Total Exploration and Production Nigeria and Nigerian Agip Oil Company, said two Most Valuable Players (MVP) will embark on a trip to the Netherlands for a coaching opportunity with the youth academy of the current Dutch football league champions, Feyenoord Rotterdam FC.
