Super Eagles goalkeeper coach Alloy Agu has clarified information that filtered from the team’s camp Sunday over the insistence of some of the Muslim players that they must partake in the Ramadan Fast.
The former Super Eagles goalie in underplaying the story, said that players have been observing the Ramadan Fast even when he was playing.
“I don’t think there’s any problem in the Super Eagles over fasting. Since my time we’ve had players observing it.’’
Agu who was speaking on a Brila FM radio programme said that the team are targeting three points in Saturday’s game against South Africa that would be a huge step in their bid to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in six years.
“A lot is expected of the Super Eagles against Bafana Bafana and we won’t disappoint,’’ said Alloy Agu.
“We’re on course with the goalkeeping department. Against Corsica we were on holiday. Togo kept them busy,” Agu said.
Alloy Agu ran the rule over Ikechukwu Ezenwa (FC Ifeanyi Ubah) and Dele Alampasu (CD Feirense) during the training camp in France but made room for Chippa United’s Daniel Akpeyi when the roster was announced last week.
The national team returned to the country this past weekend from France, where they held a get-together and faced Corsica and Togo in practice matches.
