Rivers FA Secretary laments lack of support

Benjamin Akubo, Secretary, Rivers Football Association (FA), has lamented that the association has not been getting the needed support to move football forward from the government and corporate organisations.

Akubo said that the association was just carrying its cross.

“It will be very difficult to say that we have got the needed financial support. We have not. And that is why we don’t attach funfair to our FA Cup final; we had wished that we don’t even play the final after getting the two team for the competition,” he said.

According to Akubo, the association has always summoned courage to organise the FA Cup because organising such a programme requires financial support.

“The system is not really friendly as the association does not even get corporate sponsorship but manage to create activity with or without support.

“Otherwise, let it be clearly stated that FA Cup sponsorship is the state government’s responsibility but it has not been convinced to the point of doing the needful.
“We have come to a point of apathy in terms of talking and writing for support, and we are not eager to write anymore,” he added.

The FA scribe said that the ultimate concern of the association was to organise a peaceful and orderly FA Cup competition and that has been the fulfilment.

He said that the highlight of the just-concluded Rivers FA Cup was the ouster of Go Round FC, a National League side, by an amateur side, Cynosure FC.
