Tottenham Hotspur’s hope of closing the gap on Chelsea to just one point suffered a huge setback following their 1-0 away loss to West Ham in the Premier League on Friday night.
The only goal of the game was scored by Manuel Lanzini in the second half.
With the defeat, a win for Chelsea against Middlesbrough on Monday could see Spurs, on 77 points, seven points behind with three games remaining.
The win takes West Ham to ninth in the league table on 42 points.
After a cagey affair in the early part of the game, the first chance fell to Harry Kane on 21 minutes but his effort was blocked away for corner.
The resulting corner saw Eric Dier hit a well taken shot which was palmed away by Adrian.
The deadlock was eventually broken in the 65th thanks to Lanzini who smashed the ball in from close range following a half clearance by the Spurs defence.
West Ham would have wrapped the game up in the 77th minute after Jonathan Calleri dispossessed Toby Alderwereld inside the box but Lloris made a brilliant save.
