Amkar Perm coach Gadzhi Gadzhiev has advised defender Brian Idowu to wait for a call up from the Russian senior national team.
The 24-year-old was born in St. Petersburg in Russia and his father is a Nigerian, while his mother is half Russia, half Nigerian.
Iduwu was called up by Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr last year, but Russian tactician Gadzhiev told the left-back not to commit to the Super Eagles.
“When Brian received the offer to play for Nigeria, he turned to me for advice. My position was simple,” Gadzhiev said on OwnGoalNigeria.com.
“I recommend him to take time to develop his skills, to become better and stronger and hope that he’ll get the opportunity to play for the Russian national team.
“If that doesn’t happen, he can always come back and talk with the Nigerian national team.”
