Plateau United end first stanza as champions

Plateau United have emerged as the halfway champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League following their 3-0 victory over Katsina United on Wednesday.

Goals from Joshua Obaje, Kabiru Umar and Jimmy Ambrose were all Kennedy Boboye’s side needed to climb to the summit after MFM FC stuttered to a 2-0 defeat against Akwa United in Uyo.

Even with a game at hand, Plateau United boast of 31 points from 16 matches while the Olukoya Boys are second with a pointless.

Sunshine Stars continue with their awful run in the Nigeria topflight with a 3-1 defeat to Lobi Stars with Anthony Okpotu netting thrice while Samad Kadiri got the consolation for Kayode Olujohungbe’s side.

In Nnewi, FC Ifeanyi Ubah defeated 3SC 2-1 with former champions Kano Pillars getting stunned 1-0 at Niger Tornadoes.

Stephen Chukwude’s first half freekick ensured Enyimba secured a slim 1-0 over relegation-threatened Remo Stars.
