Sunshine Stars have become the latest club in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) to hand their head coach an ultimatum to start winning games or ship out.
Kayode Olujohungbe has now been told by the management of Sunshine Stars that he has two games to turn things around or the club will “seek fresh hands” to head the coaching crew.
Olujohungbe now joins the head coaches of Enugu Rangers and Wikki Tourists, Imama Amapakabo and Mohammed Baba Ganaru respectively, under pressure to win games and improve their teams’ positions on the league table.
The ultimatum comes after Sunshine Stars lost 1-2 to Niger Tornadoes on Sunday.
“In view of the recent poor results being recorded by Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure in the Nigeria Professional Football League, especially the 1-2 loss to Niger Tornadoes of Minna, the Management of the Akure-based team has given the coaching crew led by the Technical Adviser (head coach), Kayode Olujohungbe a two-match ultimatum.
“The coaching crew is expected to take maximum points (6) from the next two matches against Katsina United and FC Ifeanyiubah, failure to achieve this will leave the management with no choice but to seek fresh hands,” the club stated on Monday.
The Akure Gunners have seen their stock drop in the Nigerian top flight this season and they currently find themselves third from bottom on the log.
The stats for Sunshine Stars do not add up this term and makes them look like contenders for the drop.
After 14 games played they have managed to get 15 points and scored 12 goals, an average of 0.86 goal per game.
Olujohungbe’s men have also lost 50 per cent of their matches this season, winning only 29 per cent of the games played.
The former Sunshine Queens head coach now have to guide his team to win at home against Katsina United this Wednesday and then follow up with another triumph at FC Ifeanyiubah on Sunday. © supersport.com
