Former President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and coach, Tony Uhrobo, has declared his readiness to serve the country once again as athletics coach or President of the Federation, if called upon to do so.
In an exclusive interview with Daily Sports recently, the former coach said despite the way he was frustrated out earlier as national athletics coach by those who wouldn’t want things done properly, as a patriot, he would consider serving the country once again but that he will spell out his terms and if his terms are accepted by those in the helm of affairs, he will have no option than to serve.
“Of course if I am called upon to serve again I will not object but then it must be on my own terms,” Uhrobo began.
“It is true that I was frustrated out as the national athletics coach by those who are more interested in their pocket than the interest of the country and the athletes, I will make my services available once again if it is sort.
“If the authorities accept my terms as I said, why not? After all I have no other country to call mine except this country.
Therefore, if there is anything I could do to assist her in any way, I will not withhold it. I am a patriot, I love Nigeria that is why I cannot turn my back on her,” Uhrobo said.
Fielding question on what he is doing currently, the former head coach of Bendel State athletics said, “Well, at the moment I am into sports management and fitness training. There is a serious project that I am into at the moment but I wouldn’t want to divulge it to the public until maybe in the next three to four years.
“The project I am talking about involves my grand-daughter. My son and I are involved in the project and at the appropriate time the cat will be let out of the bag,” Uhrobo declared.
