Super Eagles’ Crowne Plaza Hotel, London camp came alive yesterday when majority of the players invited for Nigeria’s international friendly matches against Senegal and Burkina Faso arrived in the camp.
Nigeria will meet Senegal on Thursday and play against Burkina Faso on Monday next week at the Hive Stadium, home of Barnet FC.
Leading the players already in camp is stand-in captain, Ahmed Musa and his Leicester City teammate, Wilfred Ndidi. Also in camp are Moses Simon, Shehu Abdullahi, Chidozie Awaziem, Isaac Success, Ogenyi Onazi, Carl Ikeme, Bazee Noah and Alex Iwobi.
More players, including Victor Moses and Kelechi Iheanacho, were being expected in the camp last night, according to the Super Eagles twitter handle. The team is expected to have their first training session today.
The two friendly games are part of preparations for the Eagles for their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa in Uyo in June.
Super Eagles’ Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye, told The Guardian that the spirit in camp was high, adding that the new players in the squad were hungry to impress Coach Gernot Rohr.
He added that the Eagles’ officials had already started mapping out strategies to build a solid team ahead of the 2019 AFCON and 2018 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Cameroun respectively. (Alex Monye/The Guardian)
