Go Round begin NNL season with road win

By Daily Sports on March 21, 2017

Go Round FC put out a statement to other teams in the Nigeria National League (NNL) by grinding out a 1-0 win at First Bank FC on Monday.

The Omoku club put themselves in the lead very early in the contest through Chidi Nwachukwu’s second-minute goal.

For 88 minutes, First Bank failed to breach Go Round FC’s defence and at the end Nwachukwu’s goal proved sufficient to give the latter full points after Matchday 1 of the NNL.

One of the club's defenders, Chile Azu, already believe that Go Round can win promotion to the top division after their winning start to the NNL season.

“Before we left Omoku our minds were made up that we could get three points in Lagos and we believed it. We also believe that this season we will get promotion,” Azu said.

Azu also took time to talk about how the financial motivation from the club president Felix Obuah played a role in earning the 1-0 win at First Bank.

Before the game on Monday, Obuah had made a pledge of N500 000 to the team if they opened their NNL campaign with a win.

“We were happy with the pledge and we told ourselves that a draw would not be enough for us,” Azu said.

Go Round FC will play hosts to Nnewi United on Matchday 2 this Thursday.
