Rivers United have crashed out of the CAF Champions League.
The Nigerian side squandered a three-goal advantage in the first leg to go down 0-4 to El-Merreikh of Sudan, who won 4-3.
United will now compete for the Confederation Cup.
The Nigerian team had raised hope after beating El-Merreikh 3-0 in the first leg, at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt on Sunday.
United’s striker, Guy Kuemain, scored twice in the 15th and 17th minutes while midfielder, Esosa Igbinoba scored the third goal in the 82nd minute.
Al-Merrieikh’s attacker, Bakri Babeechar, almost scored for his side in the 20th minute but his goal bound shot was saved by United`s keeper, Sunday Rotimi. (NAN)
