Game against Rangers will be tight, Rivers United’s coach Eguma predicts

By Daily Sports on March 5, 2017

Coach of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma, has predicted a tough duel in today’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match against the defending champion, Rangers of Enugu.

The Port Harcourt team will host the Flying Antelope in one of the Match Day 12 fixtures of the NPFL at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt.

Both Rivers United and Enugu Rangers are currently flying the nation’s flag at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League and are on 14th and 15th position on the NPFL’s log respectively.

Speaking with The Guardian yesterday, Eguma said the match is going to be a battle of two giants that competed for the NPFL’s title vigorously last season before one lost it out to the other.

“No doubt the match is a big game, it is more or less a local derby. The two teams were close rivals last season and I believe the match is definitely going to be a good game and a very tight one. Hopefully, we will get the three points because you never can tell, as football is not mathematics.

“That Rangers won the NPFL’s league last season was not a fluke, I believe they did well and merited it. They were one of the top teams last season and we too also did well.

“My team is almost a new one from last season, it is made up of about 80 per cent new players. Now we are still trying to annex them together for better understanding. With time we will get better because we are working hard to get a perfect team,” he said. (Samuel Ifetoye/The Guardian)
