Former Minister of Sports, Alhaji Isa Ibrahim Bio, has thrown his weight behind the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Mr. Amaju Pinnick’s quest to be elected into the executive committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The former Minister said, if Amaju is convinced that he will be supported by other federation presidents to become a member of the executive committee of CAF, there is no problems with that rather than to give him total support.
Bio explained that Amaju’s executive membership of CAF will serve the interest of the country better than any other person from outside the shores of the country.
He recalled that after the exit of Dr. Amos Adamu from both CAF and FIFA executive boards, there is no other Nigerian that has risen to such a privileged position even as he explained that Dr. Adamu did many good things for Nigeria football when he was there and believes that Amaju’s case may not be different.
“My view concerning the NFF’s President’s bid to become a CAF executive committee member, is that as far as I am concerned, I think it is good and will serve the interest of the country better,” Bio stated.
“If Amaju believes that he has the support of other federation presidents’ to be elected into CAF executive committee, then there is need for all and sundry to back him because it is for the good of the country.
“Of course we are all aware that since the exit of Dr. Amos Adamu from both CAF and FIFA executive committees, no other Nigerian has risen to that privilege position. And if Amaju is bidding to become a member of the executive committee of CAF, I see it as a welcome development and I support it 100 per cent.
“I know that when Dr. Adamu was there as both CAF and FIFA executive member, he did many good things for Nigerian Football and I believe that if Amaju is elected into the executive committee, he will follow the good steps of Dr. Adamu by protecting the interest of the country at that high level.
“Therefore, it will be for the good of the country if he is elected into CAF executive committee,” Bio explained.
“Meanwhile, I would like to use this opportunity to call on the Federal Government as represented by the Honourable Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to support Amaju’s bid.
“We have a lot to gain by having one of our own there than having someone from another country because no citizen of another country will love or protect the interest of Nigeria than a Nigerian,” Bio declared.”
