Nigeria Professional Footballers both serving and retired under the auspices of the National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers NANPF, the official Nigeria Players Union affiliated to the Nigeria Football Federation and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria has congratulated Alhaji Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the League Management Company (LMC) for the honour bestowed on him as the Sun Sports Personality of the Year in Lagos.
“As a body, representing the major practitioners of the game (the players) we applaud your contributions to the repositioning of league football in Nigeria through your innovative and creative leadership qualities that have witnessed the emergence of strategic institutional reforms and relations for the expansion of corporate, technical and commercial capacities for steady and sustainable growth and development of the league on all fronts, which has no doubt greatly improved the career performance of our members,” the union said in a statement issued by its General Secretary, Comrade Austin Popo.
The Players Union, led by veteran footballer, Dahiru Sadi (MFR), said it was equally impressed with the quality of officiating and security of the NPFL games and venues that have boosted the confidence of our players in discharging their obligations.
“Our players value is better now appreciated more than ever as results of matches are now more decided by their performance hence the increasing need for better players welfare packages.
“Furthermore the massive windows of opportunities open to the union and the league to improve the lives and careers of both serving and retired Professional Footballers through the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NANPF and LMC under your leadership is a mile stone that will not only put an end to the army of challenged retired players but transform our football on all fronts, this and many others no doubt truly stand you out as one person, who deserved to be honoured.”
The group said: “Once again we congratulate you and look forward to a greater collaboration between both bodies on all fronts driven by a common goal and desire to take our football to next levels.”
