Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) record goalscorer and Enyimba captain, Mfon Udoh says the club are hungry for trophies, after finishing last season without a silverware.
Enyimba finished a distant 10th at the end of the 2015/16 season, their worst in over a decade. But, after netting a brace and helping his side secure a 2-1 win against visiting Nasarawa United in Calabar on Sunday, the former Akwa United striker believes the tide will turn in the current campaign.
"Impossible is nothing. Everything is very possible. My aspiration and that of my teammates is to help the team reclaim the league title and win the Federation Cup.
"We are not under pressure, but there is a deep desire and hunger in the team for trophies, which is what we (Enyimba) are known for. It is our reputation and everyone knows us for winning laurels. We will try to replicate that this season," he said.
The forward further praised Calabar fans for turning out for games at the UJ Esuene Stadium to show solidarity to the team and the league.
"Calabar fans are fantastic. I commend them for always coming out to cheer us and enjoy the game. Most of them are surprised on the quality of play and organisation of the league. The support has been massive and we are highly motivated," he reflected.
Corroborating Udoh's position on Calabar fans, coach of the side, Gbenga Ogunbote, said the team have a huge task ahead of them to meet the aspiration of the fans, which he described as amazing.
"Calabar fans love good football. Their show of love, passion and commitment is amazing. I am not surprised at what we are getting here, but we have to do a lot of work to make them happy always," Ogunbote told npfl.ng.
Enyimba moved into fourth place on the log after Sunday's victory, three points adrift of leaders, Plateau United. The team travel to Maiduguri for a date with El-Kanemi on Matchday 6 this weekend. (npfl.ng)
