The stage is set for the annual King Olu Awure under-18 soccer competition in the Polytechnic town of Usen in the suburbs of Benin City, Edo State. The competition which attracts youth teams from different parts of the state and beyond is one of the foremost football tournaments that take place in sports-crazy Edo State. With the kick-off date set for January 26, the competition would last for about a week. Meanwhile, participating clubs are currently deep into preparations for the competition. Apart from the financial gains that winners are promised, the tournament holds appeal for young players because of its prestige value. One of the participating teams is Benin Warriors FC based in the Oka area of Southern Benin City. Captain of the team, Samuel Ogbuku, told Daily Sports that he and his teammates are excited to be taking part in the tournament. “We have trained well and we want to do well in order to make Oka community proud,” he said. The Assistant Manager of the team, Rex Roy Bob in an interview with Daily Sports, said: “It is an honour for us Benin Warriors FC to be participating in this great competition because it is an avenue for our young talented players to showcase their talents. Our aspiration is to emerge the eventual winners though it won't be easy but we have worked really hard on and off the pitch for this competition, I know the players are prepared both physically and tactically and we are determined to take every game as it comes. I do hope and believe that our aspiration will become a reality and we will do Oka Community proud.” The youthful and soccer-loving royal father HRH Olu Ogbe 11 of Usen is expected to be present for the opening and closing matches of the tournament.Source Daily Sports
