Rivers’re Winners Cup champions

By Daily Sports on January 22, 2017

Rivers Angels head coach Edwin Okon is a happy man after his side lifted the 2016 Winners Cup at the expense of top-flight rivals Nasarawa Amazons.

The Cup holders defeated the Lafia landladies 5-3 on penalties after a goalless fulltime score in Saturday’s Winners Cup at the Fifa Goal Project ground of the Abuja National Stadium.

“We are happy to have won the Cup, it’s our first silverware of the year as well as a big boost ahead of the upcoming league season.

“We could have won the match in regulation time, but we missed some chances.

“I’m happy that the record book of domination over Nasarawa Amazons was kept intact,” said the former Super Falcons head coach to supersport.com.

The conclusion of the Winners Cup competition has officially brought to a successful end the 2016 women’s league season. (supersport.com)
