Alex Iwobi struck in the second half as Arsenal cruised to a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace in the English Premier League on Sunday.
Iwobi was saddled with the responsibility of replacing the indisposed German international, Mesut Ozil in the heart of the Arsenal midfield and he repaid Arsene Wenger’s confidence with a telling display capped with a crucial goal.
Arsenal had taken the lead in spectacular fashion through Olivier Giroud’s improvised effort in the 17th minute.
The Nigerian international then made the points safe with a headed effort in the 55th minute.
Alexis Sánchez sent several defenders the wrong way with a reverse pass to Nacho Monreal, whose cross was cleared by Scott Dann, high into the air.
The ball landed in the six-yard box, and Iwobi headed over the Crystal Palace goalkeeper, Wayne Hennessey and into the roof of the net, despite the efforts of two Palace players to clear on the line.
He was substituted in the 77th minute with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain taking his place.
The 20-year-old Super Eagles attacker has now been directly involved in five Premier League goals (two goals and three assists) for Arsenal this season. (supersport.com)
