Abia Warriors’re work in progress

Abia Warriors head coach, Okey Emordi has said the side are still work in progress even after a successful preseason programmes.

The Umuahia Warriors concluded the first phase preseason programmes with a 3-0 spanking of Ebonyi United.

The clash which took place in Umuahia saw the trio, Chima Uluocha, Durable Nwuju and Stanley Okoro scored each for the Warriors who won 11 of the 14 friendly matches during the preseason tour.

The tour lasted for four weeks started in Calabar and later shifted to Ozoro and Oba respectively.

Warriors engaged Federation Cup champions, FC IfeanyiUbah in a duel that ended goalless at the Rojeny Sports Complex.

At the Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro the Umuahia-based side piped Delta Force 1-0 with Samson Obi who joined the Warriors from the Asaba team grabbing the winner. The side other game against Lions FC ended 1-1 at the same venue.

Emordi said his side will not indulge in self-glorification over the successes in the preseasons but will continue to work hard to achieve the mark that will see the side excel in the upcoming top-flight.

“We used the friendlies to look at the players we have as well as chose those who fell into our philosophy and so far so good.

“I think we are satisfied with what we have seen in all the preseason programmes.

“However we still have areas we are working on in order to make the team very competitive in readiness for the league opener.

“I can say with humility that the team is still work in progress as we hope to double our efforts in the days to come to reach the mark we set for ourselves,” said the former Enyimba and Enugu Rangers coach to supersport.com.

Warriors will embark on Christmas break on Friday to resume on Tuesday, January 03, 2017.
