Four Nigerian table tennis players have confirmed their participation in the 2017 International Table Tennis Federation World Tour Hungarian Open in Budapest.

Quadri Aruna, Ojo Onaolapo, Olajide Omotayo and Bode Abiodun will participate in the competition which serves off on Jan. 17 and ends on Jan. 22.

All the four players are males and are based in Europe.

Onaolapo, who plies his trade with ADC Ponta Do Pargo, Portugal, said that he would use the competition to launch himself into the New Year and garner points for world ranking.

He said, “It’s my target to improve my ranking tremendously in 2017 and this competition is a good lead.

“The Open will have the best players in table tennis competing and we are all into it for a common interest which is to garner points.

“It is going to be a keen competition and I am preparing for the task.”

Marcozzi Table Tennis Club, Italy player, Omotayo said he would use the competition to further improve on his standard.

Omotayo said that it was pivotal to engage in open competitions in order to evaluate oneself.

He said, “I know I still have a whole lot to do on myself as a player and this is one avenue for self-development.

“Aside club side matches, one needs to have other meets to get better and build up one’s confidence.

“While doing all these, I will also work on getting points for my ranking.” (NAN
