The much-publicised Confederation of African Football (CAF) Beach Soccer tournament which is taking place at the Eko Atlantic City, Lagos, will kick off today, Sunday, December 11, 2016. The opening game will be between Pepsi Football Academy and two-time African champions, Enyimba International Football Club of Aba. Kick-off time is 4:00pm.
The second game of the day will be a celebrity match, according to the fixtures made available on the media tag for the tournament. The celebrity game will hold by 5:15pm while the main game and the last for the day will be between host nation Nigeria’s national beach soccer team, the Sand Eagles, and the Switzerland national beach soccer team, and time is 6:30pm.
Daily Sports can authoritatively report that the organisers of the beach soccer tournament in conjunction with CAF, Kinetic Sports Management are not leaving anything to chance to ensure that the championship is a huge success as arrangement has reached its climax with the installation of most of the most important facilities at the venue.
As at yesterday morning when Daily Sports was at the Eko Atlantic City for Media Accreditation, the entire place was a beehive of activities as the place was turned to a huge construction site with over 300 people seen constructing one thing or the other including painting. The stands were almost installed as only the roofing was being fixed at the time Daily Sports was there. The Media Tribute has already been installed and entertainment centres were being built.
One of the workers approached for comment who does not want his name in print as he was not authorised by his company to talk, however said they were determined to ensure that they finish their assignment before the commencement of the tournament today even if it means spending the night at the venue.
Meanwhile, all the partners of Kinetic Sports Management such as FCMB, Pepsi, Hero, Wakanow and the official partners, Supersport and Cool FM, were seen putting their stands and advert at the venue.
The Lagos State Government is playing a very important role in this tournament popularly called COPA Lagos. The State Government through the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, is not leaving anything to chance to ensure that this year’s beach soccer tournament is a huge success.
According to report, the State Government wants to use the opportunity provided by this beach soccer to showcase the tourism potentials of Lagos State to the world and Commissioner Ayorinde has clear picture of what Governor Ambode led government vision is and he is working very hard to ensure that that vision is realised.
It is also important to state here that as at yesterday morning, the Switzerland National Beach soccer team were seen playing on the pitch with the children who turned up for the children clinic. The children clinic was one of the ways that the organisers want to use in sensitising the public and at the same time creating awareness of beach soccer among the younger generation.
There is no gain saying that the children were happy as could be deduced from their happy mood during the exercise.
