After two weeks of hostilities, the curtain was on Saturday evening drawn on the 2016 African Women Nations Cup (AWCON) with the Super Falcons of Nigeria fending off fierce opposition from hosts Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon to be crowned the Queens of African football for the eighth time.
It was fireworks for the entire 90 minutes at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo as the two traditional rivals slugged it out but with the Cameroonians, who were desperate for their first title, dominating proceedings.
The Super Falcons, however, held their nerves against the Indomitable Lionesses, who entered the match as the only side that yet to concede a goal at the continental competition.
Goal poacher Desire Oparanozie netted the all important goal in the 86th minute after shrugging off her marker to slot home from close range.
The Falcons are yet to lose a Cup of Nations final match, having also won in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2014.
