The recently appointed coach of 3SC of Ibadan and former Flying Eagles’ coach, Fatai Amoo, has expressed happiness over his appointment as the coach of the Oluwole Warriors as 3SC are known and addressed by their teeming supporters across the country.
He described his appointment as home coming saying that he is a serious fellow who does not believe that boasting should be a way of life particularly when it concerns the game of football and as a result; will never be dragged into making promises that he knew that are unattainable but assured that true to type, he would do his best for the club.
Amoo stated this in an exclusive telephone interview with Daily Sports last Tuesday from his base in Ibadan.
“Well, like I said during my unveiling recently as the coach of 3SC, I am happy to have been appointed as coach of this club. As for me, I considered it a rare privilege to have been appointed as the coach of this traditional club,” Amoo said.
“As far as I am concerned I see my appointment as the coach of 3SC as home coming. It is home coming for me because this is not the first time I will be serving as a coach of 3SC. I have been here before and I know what this club means to stakeholders and fans.”
Speaking on what he intends to achieve, Amoo said that he was not used to making boastful statements, adding that stakeholders and fans should realise that 3SC is not the only club in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) saying that inasmuch as they are in the game of football they should realise that it is a game of winsome and lose some.
He, however, assured to bring his wealth of experience to bear in performing his assignment with the sole objective of using his first year in the saddle to ensure that he stabilize the team to avoid what has become the plight of the club of recent, the issue of fighting against relegation every season. Amoo explained that it is after achieving that that he would work to ensure that club regain their past glory as one of the dreaded clubs in the country.
“The thing is that those who know me are aware that I am a serious minded fellow. I am serious in whatever that I do. So, I am not a boastful type that will tell you that I will do this and that even when I know that what I am saying cannot be realized or achieved.
“I believe that with the caliber of players in the team and those that are to come into the club, we will be able to stabilize the team. I would want all the stakeholders and fans to realize that SC is not the only club in the NPFL and that the game of football is such that you win some and you lose some. There is no club who does not win matches and lose matches, that is for sure.
“Moreover, I believe that if the atmosphere is conducive by way of providing the resources with which to work, we will do well. I mean if the funds are made available for us to do all that we need to do, we will certainly do well,” Amoo assured.
“Like I said earlier, I am a serious minded fellow. I am not the type that is given to boast. All I know is that my target in my first season here is to ensure that I stabilize the club so that we will not be struggling to avoid relegation towards the end of the season like it has become the plight of the club recently.
“3SC is one of the traditional clubs in the country and as a result we should not be struggling by being in the 13th to 15th position on the table and in such a situation if you suffer a defeat you start struggling against relegation and I believe that we can take 3SC out of this dangerous situation.
“We should be able to be at least in mid table in my first season in charge and in subsequent years build from it and compete favourably with other big clubs in the league and I believe it is doable,” Amoo declared.
