Heartland disown Deutsch as coach

By Daily Sports on November 25, 2016

Heartland chairman Goodfaith Etuemena has washed his hands of the purported hiring of the Cameroonian Emmanuel Deutsch as new technical adviser.
The former Heartland goalkeeper trainer was unveiled as the new helmsman on Wednesday in Owerri by the side's supervisor and deputy lawmaker, Hon Ugonna Ozuruigbo.

Interestingly, Heartland head coach Ramsom Madu is dutifully working on the preparatory programmes for the commencement of the upcoming NNL season.

Etuemena said himself and management were not aware nor party to the hiring of Cameroonian who was dropped as goalkeeper trainer on poor performance before the Naze Millionaires picked up a ticket for the Caf Champions League competition in 2009.

“This action represents the first direct attempt to factionalise our darling team and turn it into another political movement.

“I would plead with Nigerian football stakeholders to reject and resist it in its entirety.

“As a matter of fact, we have a team of seasoned coaches handling the team at the moment and if we need to change any of them we’ll go for coaches with a higher pedigree,” said Etuemena to supersport.com.

Etuemena complained that the companies (such as OZB Communications) whose logos appeared on the backdrop used for the purported unveiling of Deutsch have no sponsorship, partnership or affiliation with the club side.

The Heartland boss said for the side to return to the top-flight in just one season stint in the lower cadre as mandated by the government and people of the state every effort must be made to unite the team, not to cause unnecessary division.

“I have said it severally that as long as my deputy speaker of the Imo House of Assembly is able to understand and focus on his role I’m ready and willing to work with him. I’m not a man of crises, I’m for peace any day,” emphasised Etuemena.

Heartland failed the 2015/16 top-flight litmus test, finishing poorly on the 18th position on 44 points and will campaign in the nation’s second tier league, the Nigeria National League.
