Nigerians living in South Africa have commended the Super Eagles for beating Algeria, 3-1, in a group B 2018 World Cup qualifying match.
The match was played at the Godswill Akpabio stadium, Uyo on Saturday.
The President of Nigeria Union, South Africa, Ikechukwu Anyene, said on telephone that the win had brightened the chances of the Eagles to qualify for the World Cup.
“The Super Eagles did well against the highly rated Algerian team. The team showed discipline and achieved a good victory.
“My prayer is that the team maintains the stability and qualify for Russia 2018 World Cup,” he said.
Nimram Longbap, President of Arewa, South Africa, also commended the team for the win.
“With six points already in our kitty, we hope the team continues with the same spirit. It was a good game and good result,” he said.
Longbap, also, the treasurer of Nigeria Union, South Africa, suggested that the team should play more international friendlies to be in form for the remaining matches.
Anthony Usembo, a medical practitioner and Vice President of the Union, said the Eagles had shown determination and zeal to excel.
“I am impressed with the outing of the Eagles and urge them to keep winning. I very optimistic that Nigeria will qualify for the World Cup. We are all praying for the success of the team,” he said.
Adetola Olubajo, Secretary of the Union, called on the coaching crew to correct some lapses noticed in the team, especially the defence.
“I am impressed with the team especially Oghenekaro Etebo, a member of the U-23 Olympics bronze winning team.
“I suggest that more aggressive players like Etebo be used for the remaining matches. Nigeria is blessed with abundant stars and they should be harnessed and used for national and international outings,” he said.
Joseph Nwoye, Organiser of the Charity Cup for the less privilege in Johannesburg, said that the team gave a good account of themselves in the match.
“The Super Eagles did well against the Algerians. They should continue with the same fighting spirit and I believe they will qualify for the world cup,” he said.
Chima Umealo, President of Abia Union, South Africa, said the Eagles showed maturity, using a mixture of young and experienced players for the match.
“Nigerians in South Africa are happy with the win. We will continue praying for the success of the team and we believe that they will qualify for the world cup,” he said. (NAN)
