Nigeria minutes ago moved into pole position in her quest for a ticket to the Russia 2018 World Cup, beating favourites Algeria 3-1 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom State.
Mesmerising winger Victor Moses was easily the man of the match, accounting for two goals, while skipper John Mikel Obi added one.
Moses broke the deadlock in the 25th minute while Mikel capitalised on a defensive blunder to extend the Super Eagles’ lead from close range in the 42nd minute.
After the restart, the Desert Foxes reduced the tally via a 67th minute missile by Bentaleb from about 25 metres which beat goalie Daniel Akpeyi hands-down.
As the visitors pressed forward in a bid to equalise, Victor Moses scored from the near post in the 91st minute to make victory more sure for Nigeria, who have now recorded a second straight victory in their campaign after beating Zambia away in their first game.
