The Etihad came to live on Tuesday night after Ilkay Gundogan struck twice as Manchester City beat Barcelona 3-1 in their European Champions League reverse fixture.
Lionel Messi opened the scoring with a well-taken effort following a slick Barcelona counter-attack, before the Germany international levelled the scoring.
Kevin de Bruyne then gave City the lead with a free kick, before Gundogan added a third to secure the points for Pep Guardiola against his former side.
Meanwhile, Arsenal found themselves two goals behind but fought back through Granit Xhaka, Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil to edge closer to reaching the Champions League last 16, winning 3-2 at Ludogorets.
The Gunners found themselves trailing thanks to strikes from Jonathan Cafu and Claudiu Keseru in the first half.
However, Arsene Wenger’s men completed a dramatic turnaround through goals from Granit Xhaka, Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil.
Arsenal will reach the last 16 of Europe’s elite club competition if Paris Saint-Germain avoid defeat against Basel in the other Group A fixture.
