Super Eagles goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa has engaged the service of a personal trainer ahead of 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifying clash against the Algerian opposite, the Desert Foxes.
The Eagles will host the North African side in the group’s match day 2 clash on Saturday, November 12 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
The three-time African champions kick-started their World Cup campaign on a winning note against the Chipolopolo of Zambia in Ndola.
Ezenwa said he decided on the option to engage a personal trainer now the season is over to be in top shape for the crucial clash against the Algerians.
“The World Cup clash against Algeria is quite important for us and I do not want to take chances with my fitness and shape especially now that the league season is over.
“That’s why I have gone ahead to secure the service of a personal goalkeeper trainer to work on me regularly.
“Right now we observe a daily routine where he drills me as well as works on my reflexes. I’m happy with my reaction, happy, too that being an expert he will certainly give me his very best.
“It’s quite true that players often lose form during the off-season but due to the task ahead of us I must work round the clock to remain in competitive mood for the key match against Algeria,” said the FC Ifeanyi Ubah shot shopper.
Ezenwa considers the disquiet in the Algerian camp over the sacking of their head coach, Milovan Rajevac, as a plus for his side.
“Of course, it’s an advantage but we will not dwell on it, rather go ahead to prepare adequately for the game.
“Similar thing happened to Zambia before the clash in Ndola. I think we profited handsomely from the challenge.
“The new coach will have teething challenges getting to know the terrain which is not the case with us as we are already used to each other and play as a team under our manager.
“It’s good advantage though we still need and pray for God’s favour in the clash against Algeria,” said the former Sunshine Stars goaltender. (supersport.com)
