Enyimba disastrous year ends with Cup exit

By Daily Sports on October 16, 2016

Enyimba's poor run this year has ended with an exit by the semi-final of the Federation Cup at the hands of Nasarawa United today in Ibadan.

This will certainly be a forgettable year for the seven-time Nigeria champions after they lost their championship to regional rivals Enugu Rangers and crashed out in the group stage of the CAF Champions League without much of a fight.

They will not play international football next year after they finished outside the top-3 in the league.

Nasarawa won 1-0 through a penalty taken by Seun Sogbeso in the first half.

The Lafia club will now face FC IfeanyiUbah in the final.

Enyimba goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai fouled goal-bound Abdulrahman Bashir inside the box for Sogbeso to put away the resulting penalty.

Nasarawa enjoyed more of the ball and could have doubled their advantage on the hour, but Tayo Fabiyi was wasteful with only the Enyimba goalkeeper to beat.

Enyimba were reduced to 10 men late on when Uche John received his second booking for a foul on the lively Bashir, who tormented his former club.

The Ibadan fans rooted for Nasarawa all the way to the end of the game. (mtnfootball)
