Rivers United Technical adviser, Stanley Eguma and team captain, Austin Festus have commended the kind gesture of Governor Nyemson Wike to host the team following their impressive outing in the just concluded Nigerian Professional Football League.
The team, founded last year, will represent Nigeria in the Caf Champions League following their second place finish in the domestic league.
“I want to thank the Governor for this show of magnanimity because it will go a long way to motivating the boys to do even more," Eguma told Rivers media.
“The Governor has been our number one supporter and we wanted to win the trophy for him.
“We gave it our best shot, just about fell short but we will try harder to go one better next season."
Skipper Austin in his own words is suprised at the governor's kind gesture depite missing out of the trophy.
“I am not surprised because the Governor loves football and success.
“I thank the Governor for the planned reception and I am very happy about it." (goal.com)
