Ivory Coast international Eric Bailly has been announced as Manchester United’s first Player of the Month award winner for the 2016/17 season.
The defender has been scintillating form for United helping them keep two cleansheets in their first three English Premier League (EPL) matches which they won.
According to United’s official website, Bailly accumulated the most votes (55%) from thousands of supporters who cast their votes on Twitter and ManUtd.com.
The 22-year-old beat off competition from Zlatan Ibrahimovic (37per cent) and Daley Blind (8 per cent) to land the August Manchester United Player of the Month trophy.
When speaking to the club’s television channel MUTV, Bailly stated that he was looking forward to continue doing well for the English giants.
“The Man-of-the-Match awards are something I hadn’t thought about,” Bailly said.
“But I got them through the hard work I have put in. I hope to see more of that in the weeks ahead of us.”
Bailly and his United teammates will take on their city rivals Manchester City in an EPL encounter at the Old Trafford Stadium on Saturday afternoon. (NAN)
